The Richmond African American Scholarship Fund’s (RAASF) primary objective is to provide post-secondary scholarships to African American high school students in the Richmond City Public School system. The RAASF was founded in 2003 by the African American Forum (AAF), a network group established to provide professional development and support to African American Genworth Financial associates. Since its inception, the RAASF has awarded $70,000 in scholarships to Richmond Public School graduates attending accredited universities throughout the United States.

In addition to raising funds to finance current year scholarship awards, the RAASF has established a longer-term objective to fund a $500,000 endowment. The RAASF will accomplish these goals by creating a support network of corporate, non-profit, and individual partners committed to providing educational opportunities to African American youth in the Richmond, Virginia community. Through the collective efforts of its many partners and volunteers, the RAASF is committed to developing a pipeline of African American talent that can give back to the community.

Along with providing financial support to college-bound high school seniors, the RAASF provides mentoring, networking, and development opportunities to help its scholars build practical skills that will enable them to grow into larger leadership roles in their respective communities and in their chosen disciplines.
